Burton had this to say about the process of writing this song;

“This song is a statement about a certain period of my career and personal life.
We have all been through hard times, my experience upended my entire life.
There is a lyric from a song that I hold to my heart, which sums up the process of retaining my sanity,

‘Keep what ya got by giving it all away”.

Writing Technical Exorcism was a cathartic process that spanned over a year. I wrote the music first, and the title appeared to me as I was reading through my journals, revisiting my life in recorded moments in
time. The lyrics were written, and rewritten, over the course of a few months, finely tuning the exact words and sentiments I wanted to convey. Essentially, I have exorcised all the toxicity from my world, and the release has been profoundly liberating. I believe the music and the words perfectly describe this entire process.”
